The Farm
“Welsh Blacks were here before the Romans. They know this mountain better than I do.”
In the shadow of Pen y Fan, Rhys Morgan farms Welsh Blacks on some of the wettest, greenest grass in Britain. The ancient breed thrives on the mountain, laying down dark, richly flavoured beef prized by butchers for generations. Rhys's herd calves outdoors and never travels more than twenty miles in its life.
Family History
The Morgan family took the tenancy in 1931 and bought the farm outright in 1968. Rhys farms alongside his father Gareth, who at seventy-eight still checks the mountain flock every morning.
